The first purpose of marketing is to
create brand awareness. Creating brand awareness is the process of getting
prospective customers to know about your brand, recognize their need for the
brand and then differentiate the same from the lot, thus giving you a
competitive edge.
Events, as a marketing tool, have not
only been used over the years by performers but they have increasingly become
popular across various industries including: IT firms, schools and universities,
trade organizations, research firms, recruitment firms and many others. Events
are a faster, effective and efficient way of actively communicating to a specifically
targeted audience at a given time.
Your events options, for creating brand
awareness, include but are not limited to: trade shows, musical concerts,
conferences, meetings, parties, VIP entertainment events, red carpet events, recruitment
events, fundraising events, holiday parties, weddings, (funerals in Ghana) , festivals,
camp meetings, sports events, award galas,
grand openings, and YES church services- something I have done recently and by
the way proved to be very effective.
Signage
Options
After you have decided what events to
attend and made all the necessary arrangements including negotiations with
events mangers/planners, the next thing you want to think about is what signage
to display at your stand, booth or space which would draw people’s attention
and maybe cause them to there and then pay you a visit and perhaps close a
sales deal.

Quality
Signage at Chosen event
The signage that you display at an event
can either make you or break you. Whereas
a quality signage could immediately elevate your brand image; a mediocre sign would
make you seem desperate for attention; this could instantly degrade your brand -which
is the very last thing that you want.
What
to look out for in a Quality Signage
A safe way of making sure you’re getting
the best of signage quality from your events planner or outsourced marketing firm
is to work with them from the time you ask for a quote till the time your
signage is installed; whether you get involved by receiving and sending email
for approval, or your get involved by your physical presence is entirely up to
you.
I
personally prefer to physically supervise any project especially related to
marketing, from start to finish.
However a better option, if you’re
pressed for time, is to have the agency create a number of sample designs from
which you can make your pick.
Whether you’re going in for a banner or
a flag signage or some other signage, you definitely want to pay attention
to the theme of the design, the colour
systems used, pictures, wording layout, typography, visual effects and general
presentation style and uniqueness. Quality graphic design should be flawless,
stimulating, and attractive.
The
design should at all times be consistent with what your brand stands for.
Maintain your logo and corporate colours in as much as is possible. Consistency
is the key to branding.
Printing quality will to a large extent determine your signage quality. Right after you’re convinced with the graphics quality presented to you by designers, you may also want to crosscheck against the quality of their print outs and just make sure that what you see on your computer is the same or better in print on your signage material. Quality is everything if you want your signage to stand out.
Do not accept quality limitations at this point.
Finally, if possible, you probably want to supervise the installation of your wallpaper graphics, booths, digital graphics, laser-cut special effects signage, 3-D fabrication and lighting signage etc., make sure there no defects with them. First impressions do last a lifetime.

When you come to think of it, promotional events are fun. Though challenging, it allows you to be creative in all sorts. The key is to grab the attention of the audience. Brand awareness simply does that. But before even making your way to plan events or create exhibition booths, learn about your target customers and analyse your market, like what do they want? :)
